Christmas Open House on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011.

The second Open House Christmas Celebration at Cedar Creek Antiques will be the first weekend in December. The shop will be open Dec. 1, 2, and 3 during normal business hours.

The local Home Tour will be Saturday December 3rd from 1 to 5 PM. and is generating much excitement. This event should bring a lot of people to Montevallo.

Tickets for the Home Tour are $10 per person. Spring Creek Presbyterian Church is the sponsor. Nita has tickets for sale at the shop.

The shop might close early on Saturday so that Nita can visit some of the homes, so if you want to come by the shop on Saturday, do so earlier in the day.

Open House at Cedar Creek Antiques is November 3, 4, and 5. The cabin is decorated with new Christmas inventory just arriving, featuring snowmen this year! Stop by for a fun experience and lots of good things to eat and drink.

Autumn is the time to buy Antiques

We are doing a full floor move, and getting out the fall decorations. The porch, the cabin, and the general store are full. We have a pine dough bowl box that has just arrived. It's five feet long and can be used as a bucket bench.

Prices are set to move....we are not running a museum although the furniture is old enough to be in one.

Come see the 1790 chest, the 1860 desk, the 1875 buffet, and the 1910 hall tree.

We have silver spoons made by Mr. Sperry of Connecticut, who was a friend of Mr. Gorham, Mr. Tiffany, and Mr. Reed. They all testified in a court case together to protect their silverware patterns from being taken by amateur silversmiths.

The mums are about to bloom in the nursery next door. We are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Enjoy a pleasant drive to Montevallo. We are just down the road from the American Village.

We are having the spring ANTIQUES IN BLOOM celebration now at the shop.

Nita bought a bunch of linens, so if you love handworked pillow cases and things like that, come by and see for yourself.

The nursery is going full blast also, and everyone knows that Nita's husband is as picky and particular about his plants as she is about her antiques.

Customers who visit for the first time consistently remark that Nita has a REAL ANTIQUE SHOP and Nita always answers with "Yes, that's what we want to be!"

The 160 year old log cabin is a perfect setting to show everyone how beautiful real antique furniture really is. The shop features Federal. Empire, Renaissance, Sheraton, and Primitive furniture and accessories.

The GENERAL STORE OUT BACK is filled with collectibles that our male customers are looking for.

Nita also has a hard time keeping 1940s Duncan Phyffe buffets and china cabinets, as it seems a lot of people are wanting those for their homes now. Unless it's something really nice, you won't find anything past the 1940's. That's what consignment shops are for.

Real ALABAMA pie safe SOLD JUNE

It's several shades of green and ready to go anywhere you need it to be, from inside the kitchen to the front porch.

If you don't like the color, dip an old sock in paint and give it a new shade by rubbing on the color ( therefore not losing the layered look and alligatoring of the old paint).

It's Alabama all the way, and even has old cherry wood shelves inside. Every Saturday that I visit the shop I think about taking it home.

Victorian Couch JUST SOLD

This beautiful red Victorian couch came from the Dennis estate in Wilsonville. Dot and Cecil ran an antique shop there for many years. This couch is seven feet long.

Their collection came up for auction ( so far three seperate auctions and still enough left over for another one) in Calera at Cagle's and I attended all three. My cousins bought lamps while I bought furniture.

The pink Victorian chairs are also from their estate. I have known the Dennis's all my life. They lived in Montevallo, and were only three houses down the road from ours, a quick walking distance.

I spent many Saturday mornings at their house playing Monopoly with their daughter and my cousins back in the 1960's. I guess they moved to Wilsonville in the 1980s and that's when they opened their antique shop.

( One of our best customers, from Selma, just bought the couch. She is having it recovered to match the new drapes and bed clothes and it will sit at the foot of her bed.)

French Dresser or Buffet SOLD

This beautiful French piece came from a 50 year collection of a nice local couple who are downsizing.

It was used as a buffet (we bought the large mirror that hung over it also) but it would also do nicely as a bedroom dresser or hallway chest.

The two tables in front are French tables that would go anywhere. The curio cabinet on the left is French and has one of those handpainted scenes on the bottom front. The pictures on the wall are French. See, Nita has this French theme going here in this corner.

Once the hard work of decorating and set-up is done, Nita loves her Christmas Open House. This year, the antiques are really outstanding ( she's found some great estate sales from several lifelong collectors ) and the prices are set to clean the shop out!

June Table is Pretty in Pink

Nita thinks the June set-up you see here would be perfect for a bridal luncheon but I'm reminded of Steel Magnolias and have to call it the Pepto Bismol dinner table. The centerpiece is a collection of pinks set in an 1880s wash pitcher. On each side is an old Hull vase used to step down the height of the center. Surrounding that are almost twenty hand painted or stenciled salt and pepper containers. The silver is mismatched but the forks and knives are in the Beloved pattern first introduced in the 1940s. A monogrammed tea table cloth gives texture and depth to the pink linen one underneath. Nita had some beautiful pink bisque salt cellars but they sold the first day. Various accent pieces in pink fill in all available spots to create this celebration of June at the shop.

Primitive Cabinet for the High Country Look

Nita is using this primitive cabinet to display linens, but it is ready for any number of colletions in any room. Blankets, quilts, pottery, books, colletibles-- whatever you have. The solid panelled doors close to create a clutter free piece of American furniture that's right in line with today's decorating demands. Not too big and not too small, it measures 59" tall x 38" wide x 16" deep.

Primitive Pine kitchen Table

This old pine table has seen over one hundred years of use and will continue to serve for the next hundred also. Made of southern pine and sporting turned legs, this high country primitive will be the center of attraction for any dining area. The measurements are 30" x 49" x 29" high. The height from floor to side skirts is 22 3/4" but can easily be increased with rollers or lifters to suit your chairs.

Dessert Presentation Buffet SOLD

Straight from the Old South comes this remarkable Dessert Presentation Buffet. The carving is so deep it appears to be 3D and the patina is beyond beautiful. The top surface is protected because the FIRST TOP lifts to reveal a SECOND TOP where the dessert tray should be placed upon presentation to guests by the hostess. Two locking draws reside under the top where the lady keeps her sterling dessert pieces. See to believe. Outstanding all the way. Measuring 35" wide x 19" deep x 36" high.

Federal Chest ca. 1850 SOLD APRIL 2011

We call this the Judge's Chest because we bought it from a county Judge in South Alabama. The dealer who sold it to us called the Judge while he was sitting on the bench in court to see if he would accept our offer. He did! Now it's here in Shelby County and for sale. Well built by an experienced cabinet maker, the charm comes from the purposely different colored drawer that was the style of the time. The measurements are 22" deep x 42 1/2" wide x 45 1/2" high. This chest is tight without the least bit of give when shaken. Solid and ready to go for daily use.

This beauty is everything a primitive farm table should be. Square nails hold the massively wide 2-board top down while the legs are secured with pegs! Original all the way. Measuring 40" by 62", the height is 30 1/2 " to the top and 24" floor to side rails. The top is well worn and right out of a working farm kitchen. This table is 125 plus years old and speaks for itself with no apologies.

This rare and gorgeous piece is just like the ones sold at high end auction houses such as Skinner in Boston. Solid and obviously built by a master cabinetmaker. This is a large pine blanket or quilt armoire orginally found in Dallas County, Alabama. It is study and will look great in any setting. Measures: 17 1/2 inches deep, 48 inches wide, and 76 inches tall. One side has shelves, and both sides can be adjusted to house shelves or no shelves. We estimate its age to be 1850-1880.
